Matt Frey is an owner/partner at Frey Masterson Investment Advisors. Prior to establishing the firm, he worked as part of the finance and accounting team at SPX Corporation in both Charlotte, NC, and London, UK. In London, he worked on a $1 billion acquisition as part of a team that handled the IFRS to GAAP reconciliation and financial systems integration. Prior to that, he participated in a rotational finance and accounting program.
Matt has served as a board member and an executive committee member for the St. Petersburg Free Clinic and Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County. During his tenure with SPFC, the non-profit agency has opened a new food bank, women’s residence and health center. During his time with Habitat Pinellas, the organization has nearly doubled the number of families served annually in Pinellas County. Habitat Pinellas is also consistently recognized as a best place to work and received nonprofit of the year recognition from the Tampa Bay Business Journal and Clearwater Chamber. Prior to his work with SPFC and Habitat Pinellas, Matt served as chair of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals and participated in and served on the planning committee for Leadership St. Pete. He is also active with the Clutch Hitters, St. Pete Chamber, CASA and a founding member of the social networking group, “The Boat Club”. He is involved nationally with the Notre Dame Alumni Club and the entrepreneurial group, Irish Angels.
In 2015, he received the Champion of Service Award from Volunteer Florida and Governor Scott for his continued support of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County.
Matt has won numerous national medals for swimming and holds three national records. He was a Paralympic qualifier in 2000 and was named the PA Sports Hall of Fame’s Most Courageous Athlete in 1997. He has placed in National Amputee Golf Tournaments and was a High School Academic All-American.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he majored in finance and participated on the Irish swim team. He continued his education at Notre Dame, graduating cum laude with an MBA in investments.
Matt is originally from Elizabethtown, PA. He married life-long St. Petersburg resident, Anne Michelle Reilly in 2008. Anne Michelle teaches math at her alma mater, Shorecrest Preparatory School. They have two children, Cate and Jack, and live in Northeast St. Pete. In his free time, Matt enjoys tennis, golf, watching Notre Dame athletics and spending time with his family and friends.
